What makes for effective Public Health Leadership? Taught by leaders in the field, including a former acting Surgeon General of the United States, and designed for working professionals in the field and those who aspire to be, this specialization in Public Health Leadership emphasizes the practical application of leadership theory to public health crises and every day management and governance in the field. Offered through the Department of Behavioral and Community Health from the University of Maryland’s School of Public Health, this three-course curriculum includes foundations in leadership and interpersonal communication, transformational leadership and strategic planning, leading through public health crises, and applying technology to leadership roles. Upon completion, learners will be able to able to apply a variety of leadership models and theories to address real-world problems in public health, identify escalating public health issues and guide or mediate action to avoid crisis levels, and utilize principles of data analytics, social media marketing, and health education to communicate public health needs.
